Ecology: use of recycled materials in children's playgrounds

We live on a planet where natural resources are increasingly scarce. We are trying to extract everything from nature, and we are doing it much faster than it takes to renew itself.

We must all be aware that we will reach a point where the elements of the Earth that we depend so much on will be exhausted, and for this reason it is essential to teach children and young people that we must adapt in order to conserve our natural resources for future generations.

One way to promote this concept is by building and applying the theme of environmental conservation in outdoor playground for children and adolescents. The moment children begin to notice that there is a way of imitating nature and at the same time conserving it, this idea will accompany them for a lifetime.

There can be many ways to do this, but we are talking here about one of the main ones that is already being used more and more by the industry today, the use of ecological plastic wood as a structure for children's games.

Much has been used of trees to build things in the course of humanity, wood has been one of the main materials used to transform and facilitate people's lives: furniture, houses, bridges, poles and ... children´s playground.

Outdoor playgrounds have been around for many, many years, and we have almost always used natural wood to build them. But now we can make the structures with more complex synthetic materials, which are more resistant, durable and economically accessible, including ecological plastic wood.

Plastic wood can be composed of 100% recycled plastic, which directly influences its durability and resistance, especially against biological agents such as insects, fungi or surface attrition due to the constant action of humidity or severe heat.

In its manufacturing process, all types of reusable plastic are used such as bottles, packaging, car parts, old toys or industrial waste that are melted and transformed into a single material in the forms of boards, beams or posts modeled through the industrial extrusion process.

The physical properties of ecological plastic wood are very similar to natural wood, allowing it to be cut, drilled, fold or screwed, and make shapes and objects for different purposes.

Being an excellent way to make children and young people aware of the importance of nature conservation, it would be of enormous relevance if governments tried to acquire and install more playgrounds with environmental awareness themes, being the ecological plastic wood a material of great use for this purpose.

And we ourselves in our gardens, outdoor spaces or in premises such as in sports clubs or other private recreation venues, we can always choose to use materials that have noble objectives such as raising children's awareness of the issue of environmental conservation.
